STEEP: Extreme skiing movie shot in Chamonix
By chaletlaforet • Dec 6th, 2007 • Category: Chamonix NewsWe’re really looking forward to seeing this movie, which charts the story of extreme skiing from amazing vintage film of Anselme Baud and Patrick Valencant, via the groundbreaking Chamonix footage of “The Blizzard of Ahhs” in 1987 to the full life and tragic death of Doug Coombs.
These photos from the STEEP film site look fantastic, and US release dates are on the site now so let’s hope to see it in Europe soon.

Interesting video interview with the film makers from the Tribeca film festival:
Update (27th May 2008) - Still no sign of any release here, which is a shame, I’d love to see it on the big screen. However, it’s available on DVD and we have it at the chalet now. It’s beautifully shot, but to me, it’s the old footage that is the most amazing - seeing those legendary Chamonix descents in brilliantly restored colour is eye-popping stuff. Highly recommended, and I’ll keep this updated in case of news about a cinema release.
Chalet la Forêt is a beautiful mountain home, close to the Flegere ski lift in Chamonix.

We live in Courmayeur, and are really interested in seeing the film, Steep. Certainly it would seem there should be a screening of this film in Chamonix, but I cannot find any info regarding such. Can you keep us informed? We’re only a tunnel away, and my ski passionate boyfriend is quite eager to see this compelling documentary.
Hi Gina,
Me too! I have been looking out for screenings of it, and was hoping it would be in Chamonix over Christmas or New Year, but no sign of any European release as yet. I will be sure to post back here as soon as I find out any more.
PS we had a great day in Courmayeur recently, I will be putting some pictures up soon!
Are you the same Gina Rubattino who lived in San Francisco in the 80s and 90s? If so, we were friends back then and I just wanna say hi. Check me out at www.myspace.com/stevenpearl. Yes, I never grew up and am still doing the comedy thing. Hope all is well on your end of the world.
